savannah, GA

On my recent trip to the Peach State, Jen and I 

spent a night in Savannah. 

WOW. I was charmed. 

How fun were these.

They look like trolley cars 

but they are for tourist. 

I loved them anyway. 

The Victorians... ahhh 

these amazing Painted ladies of the south.

Can you just imagine the history that these

grand homes have seen,

(is it me or do other people try and imagine who has lived in homes?) 

These porches? the front doors? 

I am so happy that I got to experience this with Jen. 

She ooo's and ahh's over the same things I do. 

To find beauty in the little details. 

just look at the gingerbread on these homes.

the ceiling fans outdoors.... 

What an entrance! 

These beautiful homes all sat around a green,Forsyth Park which is

  10 acres in the middle of the city.  

This fountain was breathtaking 

built in 1858. Can you just picture the victorians parading around in their 

bustles and corsets. Adorned with all their lovely hats, perhaps a parasol to

keep the harsh southern sun from their delicate skin. 

(loved all the cruisers with baskets around the city)

Many of the streets are still cobblestones. loved that I found some peaking thru

from out under the asphalt. 

The Brick was a dream. 

the advertising all faded and glorious. 

Well, We were in all our glory! 

I adore architecture. I mean really

these doors, walls, windows... all lovely. 

The Main St is down on the river. 

There were so many amazing little shops down there. 

Beautiful people as well. 

this man was one of many street performers. 

When we first went down I took this picture. 

I have a thing for clouds... 

They are like paintings to me. 

This was taken as we were leaving and a storm was moving in very quickly. 

 

I LOVE the south. I love all the beautiful history and the kind souls. 

But the one thing I can't get over is the flying of the confederate flag.

always seems strange to me to see it flying. 

The Drive back was rural and lovely. 

Jen even turned the car around and I ran across the highway

to capture some breathtaking  images.

Man we are so blessed to live in such an amazing 

country. Beautiful and Free. 

oh and I almost forgot... I about died every-time I saw Spanish Moss. or Spanish Beard 

or French Hair or greybeard.... 

It really is fascinating and you should look it up and read all about it here.

In case anyone  was wondering... 

like a new parent or parents of toddlers.... 

Time goes Quickly.

I mean so so quickly, it is like a blink of an eye. 

how is it that our oldest is graduating from High School. 

I mean, for Pete's Sake, I feel like I just graduated from High School!

so I suppose the moral of this story is that you better enjoy each and every second. 

Because before you know it , it is over and they are all grown up!

We went to the circus today.  

Man we had a glorious time. 

My favorite was the amazing elephants.

Bee U ti full

The Honey Bee

While I was away in Georgia,

cam across a local bee Keeper. 

She was amazing.Her name is Deb Sasser of Sasserfrass Hill Bee Farm. 

She is truly passionate about Bees. 

And I learned some amazing incredible facts about bees from her 

while we visited. 

Did you know that Bee's keep their hives at a constant 93 - 95 degrees! 

Amazing, all year long. 

She lifted off the top of her hive and we felt it. It had the most lovely 

fragrance of bees wax and it was so warm. 

Also, did you know that honey NEVER spoils. 

the only way it will spoil is if you take it too soon,

before the bees cap it off. 

Honey was actually found in some of the ancient tombs of Egypt. 

(holy Cow) 

She calls the Bees "her girls" How wonderful is that. 

The Queen Bee can live 3 to 4 years. 

The worker bees (which are only females) work so hard that they 

only live about 6 weeks. 

They actually work themselves to death. 

and the Drones... (the boys) only job is to mate with 

the Queen and then 

they die. 

(its a cruel world boys...)

During its short life the worker bees have many jobs. 

The first job is that of housekeeper. 

after a few days she is promoted to nurse bee. They feed the babies and also, 

 the young nurse bee's take the new

baby bees to the edge of the hive and teach them to fly! 

WOW, that is so cool. 

I adore even thinking about that. She teaches them to fly in tiny little circles 

to learn to fly with the wind. 

She is only a nurse bee for 3 to 10 days she doesn't sleep at all during this time. 

(sounds like new mom's.....)

I can't even believe how beautiful the hives are... 

how amazing hearing and learning all about 

the honey bees was. 

Oh man, there were so many interesting facts like the 

bee hives are antibacterial....

they produce Propolis  which is antibacterial....

oh and how you should find a local bee keeper and buy honey from them, 

it helps to reduce seasonal allergies. 

YUP I would much rather take some honey then 

pop Claritan everyday. 

I loved learning from Deb. 

I could have spoken to her for hours and hours. 

She was incredibly gracious and her honey is delicious. 

Bees are disappearing. 

could be due to the use of all pesticides and insecticides. 

(if they are killing off vital bees think of what they are doing to our bodies.) 

We need more people like Deb to help educate people about these wonderful amazing creatures. 

and if you don't know there is a CREATOR after learning all about bees 

and how amazing they are... well i just don't even know what to say...

Thank you to all that have served our Great Country. 

Thank you to all those lives that were laid down

& sacrificed so that we can the enjoy freedoms  

that we do. 

So we can fly that amazing Flag of ours.

paula deen and a return to blogging.

I hate the new blogger format. 

Perhaps the reason i haven't been posting. 

Just wanted everyone... all 3 of you... to know that i am not dead, 

just taking a break

a long break. 

My most wonderful husband kept the kids 

for a week while i got to galavant all over Georgia with Jen. 

Sweet right. 

he told me I should be a saint... 

(any MOM should receive saint hood)

anyway, 

we went to Savannah. 

WOW, glorious historic city.

While we were there I persuaded Jen to go to my

beloved Paula Deen's 

Lady & Son's.

It did not disappoint, my friends. 

It was everything I had ever dreamed or imagined her food to be. 

(not being dramatic not one bit) 

in fact, I was so overcome with emotion that I may 

or may not have teared up while we were waiting 

for the elevator.... 

here are some photos for you to drool over....

We ate from the buffet. 

15.99 for all you can eat! yup, I am sure I ate my 15.99 worth 

of delicious food. 

and kids 4 and under they eat free at the buffet... DEAL . 

I sampled every single item on the buffet , yeah i did. 

here we have some FRIED CHICKEN. 

and i love me some fried chicken, this was the BEST 

Fried chicken  that has ever touched my lips. 

then we have some green beans, black eyed peas  and 

a yummy pasta casserole, 

her famous mac and cheese and delish mashed potatoes. 

and behind that chicken is some pot roast.... 

mmmmmmmmmm

we both had Luzzane Sweet TEA .... 

look at that mint... mmm it was so good. 

they just kept refilling the glass. 

they bring everyone a corn hoe cake (which is like a corn pancake) 

they have maple syrup on the table for that... 

and a garlic and cheese biscuit. 

Delicious. 

(you can see in this shot Jen, had a salad from the salad bar.) 

i skipped the salad bar and opted for a second huge plate of food. 

here Aubrey is pouring on some maple syrup to her hoe cake.  

for my second plate I had the bbq riblets, they were amazing. and more pot roast, 

more mac and cheese , more potatoes, and sweet potatoes and collard greens. 

I have never had collard greens, but i am sure they are cooked with pork fat and 

they were divine. 

for dessert you had a choice of 3 thing. We opted for one of each. 

Banana Pudding, Gooey Butter Cake... (WOW)

and Peach Cobbler. 

the peach cobbler was my favorite. 

So, all in all it was an amazing experience,  

i may have consumed about 30,000 calories in that meal but I 

don't care! 

the only thing that could have made it better would have been if

Paula had actually been there herself.... 

She was there the day before and our waiter, Sydney, 

well his ex fiance was Paula Deen's house keeper 

and he had been out to her house before... 

no kidding! 

i pretended that Paula was out in the kitchen fixing us all this

food. Yup, I have issues.
