Art

Yesterday I had a chance to go out and shoot. I was asked to take some photographs of my friends, friends, art work. It happened to be his first gallery showing. I was happy to do it for him. WE went down to Newark to go to the show. On the drive there I was really taken back by the beauty of the city. You can see in the old building that it is a city full of a rich history. We often times do not realize the importance of smaller cities and what important roles that they do play. I have lived in close proximity to Newark, NJ my entire life. IN fact it was my forefather Matthew Canfield, who founded Newark NJ.... ( after he got kicked out of CT) I just love that... : ) I have heard many times in my life that people did all their shopping there. That they dressed in their Sunday best, white gloves and all to go downtown and shop. My Mother even purchased her wedding gown in Newark. It was the place to seen and be seen, if you will. I guess that changed quickly after the riots in the 60's. Anyway, I was never allowed to go down to Newark as a kid & teenager. But now the city is beginning to change. They are cleaning it up and I really had a chance to appreciate the beauty of the architecture yesterday.

So,
I photographed 3 very different kinds of art yesterday. Very different points of view but all art none the less. 2 were in a gallery and the other was a beautiful french gothic Cathedral from the late 1800's. The Cathedral Basilica. All in Newark, NJ. So I just wanted to share some of the images I got to capture. Enjoy.

Is this the church that was featured on 20/20 tonight where a supposed miracle took place? Its funny, I have not thought about Newark for years, well since I lived in NYC 25 years ago and would fly out of there, and then tonight I saw 2 TV shows 20/20 and Who do You Think You Are where Brooke shields traced her family roots beginning in Newark, then I read your post! How cool that your forefathers started there.

Thanks Snow : )

And I have no idea if that is the church? IT is beautiful though. How funny about Brooke Shields, I have never heard of that show. That sounds really interesting. I love genealogy. I have become the family genealogist.... It is sort of like being a detective. Fun.
